This a simple tutorial of how to install a Hornby DCC decoder into a Hornby model train and this version uses all Hornby "In house" products from their range as the Class 153 I am using for this tutorial is also made by Hornby and I also test the installation using my new NCE Powercab DCC controller. The Hornby decoder is very compact in its size when compared to the larger Lenz decoder that I covered in the last video and I have shown them side by side for the sake of this video. Also the Hornby basic decoder is ideal for this unit because it is NMRA compliant and also the motor on this Hornby Class 153 is a truck mounted motor and is quite small and this Hornby decoder have max velocity of 1amp stall current. So whilst it is ideal for small locomotives and railcars like this. It would not have the ability to cope with the more current hungry premium model trains from Heljan and the Hornby premium locomotives. But Hornby do make the sapphire decoder which is more powerful and I will cover this in another video. The Golden rule to remember is that pin 1 is the orange coloured lead and there is usually a marking to tell you which is socket one to match.
