CAMERA TRAPPING RED SQUIRRELS

Camera Trapping Diaries: Red Squirrels and the Abandoned Truck See photos:   / daniconnorwild   In July, I restarted my camera trap project with the red squirrels and the abandoned timber truck. This project first began on the 22nd April. This vintage Scania-Vabis truck has been left on the edge of the forest since the 1960s. The truck was used to distribute timber cut locally in North Sweden to countries across Europe. And after 98,263 kilometres, the truck retired to the forest and slowly nature has taken over. Delicate lichen and mosses cover the car, small pine trees grow on the back and I even found an old wasp nest inside the roof. In March I placed sunflower seeds on the bonnet and after three weeks, the squirrels discovered the food source, along with great tits and roe deer. In April, I was able to capture a variety of shots of the squirrels on the truck in winter. And I was very keen to focus on the project again in the summer, with the truck surrounded by lush greens. I vlogged each day of the project, sharing how I achieved each photo. I was very excited that on the third day, Baby Pear discovered the truck! Music and edit inspired by The Last of Us!
