Shirley appears on the Good Morning America TV Show in 1989 and gives a short Interview with Charles Gibson. This is the actual interview without the Outtakes OR the song, 'The Rhythm Divine' which Shirley performed. The Outtakes with Song clip has been uploaded as well. In less than ten minutes Shirley covers a wide variety of topics including how the song, 'Goldfinger' brought her fame in the Americas (North/Latin), the death of her daughter which she has seldom mentioned in public, the resulting lose of her voice (thankfully temporary), and the semi-retirement she was in during much of the 80's. Shirley Bassey has sold between 135-140 Million Records worldwide. This number would have been much higher if the circumstances she discussed had not happend and more LPs were recorded, released and promoted via a larger label. Personal Note: I first found out about the death of Shirley's daughter, Samantha back in 1985 when I walked up to a concert venue the night of her concert and there was a note on the door stating that it had been cancelled. Back between the 60's and 80's when Shirley performed in the southern California area the venue was usually a larger hall like the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion, the Greek Theatre, or the Universal Amptheatre. This time, in 1985, she was to perform at a smaller more intiment venue in the Beverly Hills Area. And, as I had my first decent job by then I paid the extra price so that my family and I could have very close seats. Over the years, I attended another Bassey concert in a small venue (not in Los Angeles) and I can tell you that her voice booms to the point that the walls vibrate. It's a thrilling electrifying experience, but yet her pitch and vocal control is always right on! There are many vocalists who have booming voices but what seperates Shirley from the rest is her total vocal control with powerful projection at low-mid-and high range levels, and this has been consistent over the 56+ years she has been in show business. Apparently, the news of the cancellation was in the papers, but we all missed it.
