"Hands on the Wheel," the second song on The Great American Revival, a 13-song concept album that looks at the United States, not through the lens of politics, but through the lens of promise. This song deploys the quintessentially American country music trope of the lonely trucker's perspective, with the truck itself as a metaphor for our country, for the purpose of exploring themes of interdependence, good faith, hard work, and care for one's fellow man....all fundamental aspects of a healthy society. I know it's dark out there, y'all. But know that you are not alone. So for all our sakes, "keep your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road." Sincerely, Bard Album Theme: The Great American Revival is an argument set to music. It digs into the promises of the U.S. Constitution and the most unifying threads of our history to remind us that the American Dream isn't a relic of the past—it is a contract. We are strongest when we defend each other’s liberty as our own, and when we remember that this nation still offers hope to people all over the planet. ---- LYRICS (Verse 1) The midnight CB crackles; it’s just me and the rain, A hundred-mile stare, another ghost in the lane. It’s so easy to forget, when you’re driving all alone, How many hands it took to pave that road you’re on. (Verse 2) I love the steady hum of the diesel engine’s song, When climbing up a grade as the gears hold strong. Every mile is a promise, and every stop a promise kept; Cause there’s honor in our service and the burdens we accept. (Chorus) Keep your hands on the wheel, and your eyes on the road. The dreams we carry for each other are a precious load. We keep the faith between those old yellow lines, Driving on together, following justice’s signs. (Verse 3) Well, we’ve got brakes for dominion, in our laws and courts, Seatbelts and mirrors in social systems of support, We the people are the engine, truth and compassion our headlights, But all our wheels must roll together, front, back, left and right. (Bridge) Yes, all our liberties packed together in the trailer sway, As we hold fast to each other so to keep that cargo safe. Because mutual defense is the noble pin in the hitch, It’s the love that keeps us in the lane & outta the ditch. (Chorus) Keep your hands on the wheel, and your eyes on the road. The dreams we carry for each other are a precious load. We keep the faith between those old yellow lines, Driving on together, following justice’s signs. (Outro) So, when the road feels too long or the weather starts to turn, We must remember to hold on tighter in the curves. So, let’s use our signals, maintain a careful speed, Cause no country’s future is ever guaranteed. (Final Chorus) So, keep your hands on the wheel, and your eyes on the road. The dreams we carry for each other are a precious load. We keep the faith between those old yellow lines, Driving through dark times together, guided by justice’s signs. --- @indivisibleteam @DemocracyNow @DSANorthAlabama @breakingpoints @DropSiteNews @TheGoodLiars @ivehaditpodcast @WeeklyShowPodcast @JimmyKimmelLive @LateNightSeth @occupydemocratsyoutube @FriendsJournal @RebelHQ @moreperfectunion @ValorMediaNetwork @SonsofLibertyOfficial @TheYoungTurks @NoKingsMovement @DSAdemsocialists #usa #america #alexpretti #reneegood #minneapolis #chicago #portland #epsteinfiles
