Kyoshi Paul Enfield began his martial arts journey in Oxford, England in 1979, first studying Lau Gar Kung Fu before transitioning to Goju-Ryu Karate under Paul Coleman Kyoshi. In 1984, he earned his Shodan and soon after traveled to Okinawa to train full-time as an uchi-deshi (live-in student) under the Hanshi Higaonna Morio. His pursuit of researching martial arts took him through Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and China. In 1987 he participated in the first ever official (IOGKF) karate origins research trip to Fuzhou, China, and the Fuzhou Wushu Association. Today, Kyoshi Enfield is an 8th-degree black belt and co-founder of GKCglobal, an international organization dedicated to the preservation and evolution of Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate. Alongside his wife, Michelle Enfield, he travels widely teaching international seminars each year, in addition to running a robust uchi-deshi (live-in training) program. Furthermore, as part of GKCglobal’s unique approach to learning, they founded GKCollege, a novel distance learning program through which they teach in-depth personalized training programs to teachers and students around the world.
