President Donald Trump signed an executive order from the White House Oval Office on Friday, March 7, 2025, establishing a White House task force that will take charge on organizing the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada. Trump said that tensions between the three nations as he threatens heavy tariffs on the U.S. allies will be "a good thing" for the world's most-watched sporting event. "I think it's going to make it more exciting," Trump said. "Tension's a good thing." FIFA President Gianni Infantino joined Trump for the signing and presented him with a soccer ball showing the design for the 2026 tournament's game balls. Trump and Infantino also unveiled the new trophy for the FIFA Club World Cup, which will take place across June and July 2025.
