On 25 November 2004, ITN's Julian Manyon reported from Kyiv's Independence Square (Maidan Nezalezhnosti) on the massive protests gripping the Ukrainian capital. Beginning three days before, thousands of Ukrainians had taken to the streets to protest against the results of the 2004 presidential election, which had seen incumbent Prime Minister and pro-Russian presidential candidate Viktor Yanukovych declared the winner amid widespread allegations of corruption, voter intimidation and electoral fraud. In response to the result, supporters of opposition leader Viktor Yushchenko demonstrated across the country to demand a revote.
