How to Sprout at Home - Day-by-Day

“If I had just one piece of health advice to give to a person, it would be to eat a lot of sprouts. People who do are so much healthier. There's only one way to prove this for yourself, and that is to try it for yourself”, Dr. Andrew Saul author of the book Doctor Yourself - one of my favorite guides to nutritional therapy. I decided to try it for myself… and simply got hooked. I wished I had known better earlier, but then was glad to have learned at some point! Better late than never :) I have been sprouting almost every day since… and getting concrete results! So do your health a big favor and give it the powerful boost it needs to improve – or to be maintained if you’re perfectly healthy. The health benefits of sprouts include the ability to improve digestion, prevent anemia, facilitate weight loss, lower cholesterol, reduce blood pressure, protect against cancer, boost skin health, boost the metabolism, improve vision and support the immune system. So what are you waiting for? Sprouts make a tasty and nutritious addition to your soups, salads and sandwiches. This video is a day-by-day guide for growing your own sprouts at home. Sprouts are incredibly easy and quick to grow. All you need is a glass jar, a breathable fabric or mesh, cool tap water, good quality seed, a window, and just a minute twice a day for 4-6 days to rinse and drain. Yes, it is this simple! A small section was added towards the end to show you how to get the hulls off the sprouts before eating them. Do not worry if some of your seeds end up not germinating in the jar; this is normal. That's why it is important to buy good-quality seeds: the germination rate or yield would be higher. Sprouts are the ultimate locally-grown super food. They are tasty and loaded with protein, enzymes, vitamins and minerals – to illustrate, half a cup of sprouts contains more vitamin C than five glasses of orange juice! Amazing, right?! Plus, homegrown sprouts are always fresh and you don’t get unwanted pesticides or harmful chemicals. Go for a variety of seeds/beans/grains/nuts: alfalfa, wheat, radish, fenugreek, clover, lentils, broccoli, onions, sunflower, mung beans, garbanzo beans, etc… Mung and soy beans are usually cooked; however, most sprouts are best eaten raw. If you have too many sprouts ready on a given day, just refrigerate to enjoy on the next day. The earlier you consume them, the better - sprouts do not keep well for long. Last but not least, I dedicate this video to my mother who caught my sprouting bug :) and began experimenting with various seeds/grains/beans. She suggested I devote a special episode for sprouting.
