Permaculture principle: slow, small solutions. When we choose to support local food chains - especially buying direct from small family farmers- we are taking those slow, small steps toward resilience. Keeping our micro-producers and mini-farms functioning with our financial support means not only are we supporting a local business, but we are diversifying our food chain right in our backyard. ALL of that adds resilience. You may think that your small actions don't have an impact, but I can say that as small business owner, they absolutely do. So look for those small struggling businesses, look for those less-trendy, under-the-radar little farmstands and mini-farms. How can you support them, keeping that hyper-local food production going while you feed your family from producers in your community? Today we went to Sue's Blueberries, in SE Portland. A tucked away, less-well-known u-pick blueberry farm, to supplement our blueberry harvest this year. Sue's is a hidden gem, with a blueberry field tucked into her backyard, and the best prices around. We picked buckets of lovely berries, and it felt like a good permaculture choice to pick a micro-producer and keep those slow, small solutions going. Sue's Blueberries 14952 SE Barbara Welch Ln Portland, OR 97236 (503) 760-2025 Sue is SO NICE, and her property is lovely and close to @OneGreenWorld off SE Foster in outer SE Portland. She doesn't have a website, and you should call first to check the message and make sure she's open and the blues are ready to pick. She is cash-only. Bring your own containers. ~~~~===Ways to support our work===~~~~ LIKE COMMENT SHARE AND SUBSCRIBE!
