This poem has written by Lekhnath Paudyal. He was born in Kaski. He has published many literary creations like Rituvichar (1916) and Tarun Tapasi (1953). The parrot in the cage poem was translated by Mahakavi Laxmi Prasad Devkota. In this poem, the poet presents a bird (parrot) as a symbol of the human soul in a material cage, as a symbol of Nepali citizens' freedom trapped in the cage of the Rana regime. The speaker of this poem is a caged parrot. In this poem, the parrot remembers his past life which was very joyful, and he also feels his current life. At present, he has to stay in the cage. He can't go outside. He can't sing his song. He can't speak his own words. He has to speak what others say. He has to do what peoples order him to do. Then he finds the reason for being caged, he says I have a special ability, I can speak so I am here. In this poem, he also requests god to not to create parrots again until a single human being shall remain.
