Zebrafish are now the second most popular laboratory animal model. This is mostly due to them sharing over 70% of protein-coding genes with humans, but they also lay hundreds of clear eggs externally, which increases the possible sample size for experiments. Hear Mollie Millington, the Unit Manager of our Aquatics Facilities at the Francis Crick Institute. Mollie explains why zebrafish are used in research, and outlines some of the ways we're working to continually improve the welfare of our fish. The Francis Crick Institute The Francis Crick Institute is a biomedical research institute and independent charity. We bring together people from different fields and specialisms to tackle some of the biggest questions in health and disease. Based in the heart of London’s Kings Cross, we’re the biggest biomedical research facility under a single roof in Europe and are home to a free public exhibition space.
