Trans Inclusion Starts with Workplace Culture!

When I work with clients on trans and non-binary inclusion at work, I sometimes hear people wonder if it’s really relevant to their team if they don’t think they work with any trans people. The answer is yes, it’s absolutely relevant. You don’t always know who’s trans or non-binary. Some colleagues may have transitioned before joining your team and choose not to share that part of their lives. You may assume they’re cisgender, but they’re trans and you just didn’t realize. Others on the team may have a trans or non-binary loved one, and the way these conversations are handled makes a real difference to them too. Creating space for trans inclusion in the workplace helps shape a team where people feel comfortable showing up as themselves, no matter who they are.
