A frog is any member of a diverse group of organisms, mostly semi-aquatic, short-bodied amphibians. They are known as the order Anura. The term "frog" is often applied to frogs with rough skin caused by wart-like parotid glands. However, the distinction between frogs and toads is largely informal and aesthetic. It is not based on taxonomy or evolutionary history. Frogs are widely distributed, from tropical to subarctic regions. But the greatest diversity of species is found in tropical rainforests and associated wetlands. Frogs make up about 88% of all extant amphibian species. They are one of the five most diverse orders of vertebrates. The oldest known fossil of a primitive frog is known as *Triadopatrachus*. It was found in the Early Triassic period in Madagascar (250 million years ago). However, molecular dating suggests that its divergence from other amphibians may extend back to the Permian period, 265 million years ago. #frog#documentary #organisms
