The Union Budget may bring renewed focus on India’s customs law and duty structure, with possible announcements on rate rationalisation and a broader review of the framework, according to Deloitte India Partner Saloni Roy. Speaking to ANI, Roy said customs is one of the few indirect tax areas that has not seen a comprehensive overhaul, unlike income tax, excise and GST. She noted expectations around reducing multiple customs duty slabs and addressing inverted duty structures affecting sectors such as pharmaceuticals and agriculture. Roy added that while GST changes are largely driven by the GST Council, some recent decisions may require legislative amendments through the Budget. #unionbudget #customsduty #customslaw #taxreform #deloitte #indiabudget #indirecttax #gst #economicpolicy #manufacturing #exports #pharma #agriculture #inverteduty #financeministry —————————————————————————————————————————— TOI Bharat – Your Window to India And Its Neighbourhood TOI Bharat delivers the latest news, biggest voices, sharpest views and in-depth coverage of India’s political, social and economic landscape.
