It works for most dried beans, but the cooking time will be a bit different depending on the size and type of your beans. Always check after an hour and cook more as needed. In a large bowl, soak your dry beans for 12 hours or overnight in water. If you don't know how much water to add, just get your biggest bowl and fill to the top with water and then you'll have a better idea for next time. The next day, drain your beans. You can technically use the soaking water to cook them, but I've heard that makes your beans give you more gas, so I usually discard it. You can use it to water plants or something so you won't waste water. Put your soaked beans in a large pot and fill with water. Bring to the boil on your stove, then reduce your heat to low, cover, and cook for 1-1 1/2 hours or until the beans are tender (like cooked potatoes.) You can add salt if you want, but you don’t have to. Store your cooked beans in a container in the fridge and they'll last up to a week. I like to reserve some of the cooking liquid as it can be useful in recipes. You can also reserve bean cooking liquid and whip it up like egg whites (vegans do this a lot with chickpea cooking liquid.) You can also cook beans in a crockpot, but it will probably take longer.
