Sponsored by NUCA Greater Kansas City chapter, Dozer Day® gives kids the opportunity to get in the driver’s seat and operate (with supervision) heavy construction equipment. Activities are designed to spark an interest in the construction industry and create connections with future employers. https://aogeotech.com/dozer-day-2025/ Key Quotes: 00:00:19 Alpha-Omega Geotech Business Development Director Dave Flessner says, "There is tremendous enthusiasm for this particular event. And the addition of the Career Day, now in its second year, allowed for a different tier of kids that are closer to getting into the construction field. That is a momentum booster, not only for the event, but also for our industry. The students were really wanting to learn about the soils. They wanted to learn about the type of conditions that we run into and they were asking a lot of questions. Really it's, very inspiring to be out here. And so many high school instructors asked me to come and actually speak about our field of study and industry. There's a huge need for workers in the construction field, and there is a tremendous amount of opportunity. Not every kid is geared for a four year degree and there are many positions and the salaries available in construction because of the fact that we need people in the workforce." 00:01:45 Alpha-Omega Geotech Field Services Director Scott Kelly says, "It's not a bad thing if kids don't want to go to college. Maybe they want to go into trade school. Maybe they want to get into construction, or do any of the other jobs that are out there that don't require that college degree. I do think our society is shifting. You know, artificial intelligence is not going to replace a good excavator operator. It's not going to replace a good carpenter or good electrician. We still need hands on the job site, making things happen. I love working, working with the kids here and talking to them. You know, they come to the booth here, and you might get a couple of minutes with them, but I like them to just have some exposure to what's going on and the different aspects of what we do." 00:02:37 Alpha-Omega Geotech Business Development Director Dave Flessner says, "To be able to experience what this is all about, and then remembering this experience today, you know, driving these excavators, getting behind the bulldozer, you know, being able to actually touch and feel this equipment. Just everything about construction. And then they come back and they say, you know, this is something I'd really like to do. It's the satisfaction of the smile that the kids have, and the joy that you see, not only with being around the heavy equipment, but also playing in the sand and being able to understand all the different career opportunities. It's inspiring."
