Costa Rica looks like a small country, but it actually takes quite a bit of time to get from place to place. If you’re here for beaches, wildlife, adventurous activities in the rainforest, then you need to  leave San Jose.If you only have a week, pick two places to base yourself such as the rainforest, cloud forest, or beach.  Snorkeling isn’t the best here but it’s still possible. You have more opportunities to see land-based wildlife like sloths, anteaters, monkeys, butterflies, and birds. Puerto Viejo de Talamanca is on the east coast with a relaxed Caribbean vibe. Tortuguero is a rustic village famous for sea turtle nesting areas only in certain seasons. There is still plenty of wildlife and relaxation in the off season.  La Fortuna has a nearby volcano, large waterfalls, whitewater rafting, hot springs, and more to keep you busy. Monteverde in the cloud forest has some epic ziplines and hanging bridges to get to the treetops.  Manuel Antonio National Park is very popular on the Pacific (west coast) of Costa Rica.
