From the promotional materials for the 1975 film: The Sun Gave Man the Power is "an oral history given by elder members of the Pikunni-Blackfeet Indian tribe. In the family structure of the Blackfeet, their use of materials and tools, gathering of food and medicines and ecological orientation we see the intertwining of their spiritual beliefs into their daily lives. The film is narrated by Studs Terkel with commentary by D’Arcy McNickle, Flathead Indian writer and anthropologist and Dr. James Breeling, medical scientist. Visual materials for the film were selected from 14 museums. Historical photographs are by Walter McClintock and Edward Curtis, paintings are by John Bear Medicine, Victor Pepion, O.C. Seltzer, White Buffalo, Dick West, Doc Tate Nevaquaya, C.M. Russell and Bob Erickson.” Produced, recorded and photographed by Bob and Joan Root Ericksen of the Sun Foundation.
