In 1983 Ofra’s career jumped to a new level of success and popularity. She was chosen to represent her country in the well-publicized Eurovision Song Contest with the song „Chai” (Alive), which took the second place. This was her first major international debut. Producers there liked her voice and invited her to record an album for European distribution. The performance of this song was highly symbolic as it contains the lyrics "Israel’s people are alive". As the contest was held in Munich, Germany, the scene of the 1972 Olympic's massacre, so there was considerable patriotism involved with the Israeli entry. Additional hits from the album included "Amen Lamilim" (Amen To The Words) and "Sof HaKayitz" (The End Of Summer). Ofra was voted "Female Vocalist Of The Year" four times in a row, from 1980 through 1983. Ofra sang the song "Chai" in Hebrew, English, German and French too. This is the English version, which wasn't included on the official "Chai" studio album from 1983, I'll just put it here on the list as a bonus track. The lyrics are not translations from the Hebrew, they are totally different.
