With Lum bu Ataru's side in his extraordinary life, the manga, which later became an anime, turns to be a romantic comedy filled with studs, a will to win one's heart, desire, and the ol' "Darling no Baka!" followed with an electric shock referring to Ataru's compulsive girl-chasing attempts. The effects on Urusei Yatsura has skyrocketed Takahashi's career; In 1981, the first episode of the anime has aired and the series became a smash hit with 195 episodes, 6 movies, and 12 OVAs. Despite the anime ending in 1986 and the manga series ending in 1987, that did not stop the anime from going worldwide. In 1992, the spread of the fanbase made it to America with AnimEigo, and was set to be spread worldwide in different languages and different dubs, including BBC's Lum The Invader Girl, and the Spanish "Lum la chica invasora". Today, it is still being favored from past die-hard fans, to the new ones. For example, Music channel "Artzie Music" used one of the GIFs from its opening for Tanuki's "Baby Baby No Yume" music video, and was set to be the most popular Future Funk song ever with scoring over 11,000,000 views on YouTube, engaging new Future Funk fans (like me) into the anime and manga, and a complete sell-out vinyl release of the EP with that song on a picture vinyl with the iconic Lum on it from NeonCity Records. In honor of the manga's 40th anniversary, an Urusei Yatsura cafe and a Pop-Up Shop took place all across Japan. Meanwhile, Viz Media reprinted the manga and distributed it worldwide for all to see, especially the most dedicated fans. But to appreciate this record, The "Hit Parade" was released in 1983 by Kitty Records on a picture disc variant. The record contains the greatest hits from the anime and the movies from 1981 to 1983, including the iconic "Lum no Love Song" and "Uchuu wa Taihen Da!". It also comes with a little poster and cutouts of playing cards with the characters from the anime on it. Not only does it make a great collector's item with one's Lum shrine, but also appreciates the works of Rumiko Takahasi and what it has lead to. Lum The Forever!
