Lighting an Old Peerless Boiler for Winter

My annual boiler lighting ritual, on full display. This is a Peerless natural gas boiler, model MMW-85, circa 1989. These boilers are built to last , and without fancy electronics, it has fewer problem points. Of course, the efficiency may not be 85-90% but the cost of a new boiler would be crazy expensive and would likely die within ten years. In over thirty years, I've only had to replace the pump last year and the thermocouple (three times in the past six years, see my video about that). Note: This video covers somewhat technical subjects that may be unfamiliar to some. Do not attempt to follow the instructions unless you know what you are doing. Call a licensed plumber or gas fitter to service your furnace periodically.
