I picked up this DeWalt 192-piece mechanics tool set (DWMT75049) for under $200 on Amazon. Mind you--I didn't really need more tools, but... who am I kidding--I always need more tools. Anyway, I was drawn to this set because it's pretty comprehensive, reasonable quality, and very good value for money. You can get better sets, of course. Tekton, the new Craftsman V-series, and others might be better quality. I found similar sets to be several hundred dollars more expensive. It goes without saying that you can also go with something like Snap On or Mac sets, which are definitely awesome tools (but you'll add a zero to the price). I would never go so far as to say that a very active professional (who puts their tools through the ringer on a daily basis) should trust this set; but for someone like me--who might use a tool once a week instead of multiple times a day--this fits the bill without going with a no-name brand. Long story short, it's hard to find a more comprehensive set, built to reasonable quality standards, for this amount of money. If I had to pick a weak point, it's probably going to be the ratchets. Then again, a couple individual ratchets (maybe 90 tooth ones from Tekton or GearWrench) purchased alongside this kit would still be considerably cheaper. Now to hide the other tools in the basement tool chest so my wife doesn't know that I bought more stuff I don't need....
