Mt Worth: The "Triumphant" Finale That Wasn't. 27/6/2025

Today I’m at Mt Worth State Park with my GoPro Hero 11 and Inkee Falcon gimbal, attempting what I thought would be a faultless final walk of the Giants Circuit. My plan was simple: return to a familiar favourite location to push my latest camera settings to the limit. However, my strategy usually means finding the path less travelled—and today, the park decided that for me. With the Giants circuit closed due to storm damage, I had to pivot to an alternative track that proved far more challenging (and messy) than anticipated. Technically, I was testing the limits of the GoPro Hero 11 today: 5.3 k, 25 fps with a 1/120 shutter speed (using the 180-degree-ish rule), 10-bit colour, and a flat profile to see how much detail I could pull from the shadows of the forest. I recorded a separate .wav file for better sound and kept the ISO capped at 800 to avoid the usual digital noise, but as the canopy got thicker and the trail got steeper and muddier, the trade-off between "cinematic settings" and "seeing where I'm stepping" became very real. Being out here solo, I eventually hit a point where the trail became a safety risk. I decided that discretion was the better part of valour and turned back. It wasn't the "triumphant" finale I planned, but it was an fun day on the trail. And a muddy backside.
