I recently became aware of the track Roy’s Hands from a 1969 Finbar Furey album and learned it was written by Finbar about the late Roy Williamson of the Corries. According to the sleeve notes, Finbar’s brother Eddie is on guitar. The album’s release date is the same year Roy introduced the combolins that he designed and partly built himself. The track’s title fits well with a comment by the Dubliners’ Barney McKenna, that Roy had “educated fingers” – immortalized by Ronnie Browne in a tribute to Roy. Finbar played at Roy's memorial service in 1990. It may have been this. Photos are thanks to the Corries Website (www.corries.com) save the (cropped) photo of Finbar and Roy, which is from Karen Williamson’s book “Flower of Scotland – Roy Williamson, My Father” – from Gavin Browne Publishing. Thanks also to Niall MacD for his help.
