Yamiche Alcindor, White House correspondent for “PBS NewsHour” and an NBC News contributor, came to American University in October 2020 for an important conversation with students on the eve of the presidential election. Alcindor, an award-winning TV journalist and former New York Times reporter, spoke with moderator Jane Hall and student journalists about her career and views on covering Donald Trump, the 2020 election and issues of race and gender in politics, media and society. She spoke of her sense of responsibility to bring important issues about vulnerable populations to light, and she offered advice for young Black journalists and other journalists of color. In this segment, Alcindor talks about being a White House correspondent and how covering president Trump is like covering a hurricane. This American Forum, moderated by professor Jane Hall, is a co-production between American University’s School of Communication and the non-partisan Kennedy Political Union at AU, with AU student publication The Blackprint.
