In this video, I will explain the location of larynx to other anatomical structures in the neck, its nine pieces of cartilage (thyroid cartilage/Adam's apple, cricoid cartilage, arytenoid cartilages, corniculate cartilages, cuneiform cartilages, and epiglottis), type and location of each of the laryngeal cartilages and their main functions, the structures (membranes, ligaments) that connect larynx to hyoid bone superiorly and to trachea inferiorly. Also, I will explain the cricothyrotomy procedure and the location to perform this procedure to re-establish airflow through the airways. I will discuss the two sections of laryngeal cavity (laryngeal vestibule and infra-glottis cavity), the mucous membrane lining each of these sections, the vestibular folds and vocal folds on the lateral walls of the laryngeal cavity, and the role of laryngeal cartilages and muscles in sound production. I will elaborate on the factors affecting the sound pitch and the loudness of produced sound. At the end, I will explain the definition and main causes of laryngitis and how it impacts the sound production.
