I've been curious about writing RPG-style music using basic PSGs. It's a fairly unique style of chiptune that focuses on atmosphere and establishes the mood of a game's world, rather than just being a banger for the sake of bangers. Ever since I heard the music of FF, DQ, Ys and especially YU-NO I realized chiptune could be a lot more evocative and emotive than just the usual catchy chiptune with fast arpeggios. And I want to capture that evocative quality in my writing. So this song is the first step into that realm :) I was originally going to focus on the SNES/PS1 aesthetic for doing RPG-style music (still will eventually), but I felt that starting with square waves would be help train my imagination a bit more. So I'll be doing a lot more authentic chiptunes using square waves, pulse waves, GB waves, and eventually FM, as I explore what Furnace can do (I am still very new to trackers ;-;).
