About the Speech: The Institute was delighted to host a lecture in honour of the late Professor Jim Dooge, former Minister for Foreign Affairs, Senator, and the chair of the influential Dooge Committee on European institutional reform. Professor Dooge was a member of the IIEA's Council and the Chair of the ESDP Group. In her address, Professor Brigid Laffan discussed the contribution of the Dooge Committee to the European integration process and in particular its role in paving the way for the Single European Act. Professor Helen Wallace discussed the evolving institutional landscape in Europe in the post-Lisbon environment. About the Speakers: Professor Brigid Laffan is the Principal of the College of Human Sciences, UCD. Prior to this role, she held the appointment of Jean Monnet Professor of European Politics in the Department of Politics, UCD, from 1991 to 2004 and was the founding Director of the Dublin European Institute at UCD. She is the author of numerous books and articles on European affairs. Professor Helen Wallace is Emeritus Professor in the European Institute at the London School of Economics and Political Science and Honorary Professor at the University of Sussex. She is a former Director of the European Institute for Advanced Studies at the European University Institute (EUI), Florence. A leading expert and author on the politics of European integration, she was awarded an OBE this year for services to social science.
