Wolseley Park Estate Pheasant Shoot: First day of the season

It’s a stunning morning in October and we join Steve Wild at Wolseley Park Estate for the first pheasant shoot of the season. Welcome to Great British Shooting on Team Wild TV. There has been a lot of dry and hot weather during the summer period in the UK, which has made rearing the pheasants a challenge for Steve. He’s had to bring in a lot of water due to the lack of rain. However, everyone is ready for another fantastic day of pheasant shooting. Today is a syndicate day; Steve is aiming to shoot over 200 birds within the four drives. A massive team of beaters and their dogs joins Steve all ready for an exciting day of wing shooting. Steve is feeling rather nervous early on as this is the first shoot of the season, but that hasn’t dampened anyone’s spirit. All the guns are prepared, some truly magnificent sporting pheasants for the guns. After the safety briefing, everyone heads out ready for the first drive of the day. The beaters and their dogs get set into their positions and move forward across the fields and woodlands. As the first drive comes to an end, the guns have successful shot 50 birds, a great start to the day. As the second drive begins, the beaters are back hard at work. Unfortunately, when they reach the flushing points there are council workers cutting down tress nearby. This can be a disturbance, but after a change of plan, the day continues. The second drive comes to an end and another 50 birds have been shot. With the lunch break over, everyone is eager to get right back into the field for another exciting afternoon of beating fun. Shoot days are ideal for spending time with family and friends. Although you might not see them all summer, when everyone gathers for the first shoot of the season, it’s like you haven’t been away from each other. The final two drives have finished; there have been over 734 shots and over 200 birds. It has been an incredible first shoot day of the season, everyone has worked really hard and Steve is very pleased with the final outcome.
