Today we’re going to be having a look at the Achaean League There were two main 'phases' of the Achaean League and we're having a look at the key happenings of both of these phases. The league was essentially an alliance between the different cities and regions that made up Achaea. Looking back at this video maybe I should have included a bit more about Sparta's involvement in the league and some of the other internal happenings... but oh well, I think this brief overview will do for now. I can always make another video. If you need something smart sounding to say in class, say this: "The primary focus of the Achaean League was to expel the Macedonians and to restore Greek rule in the Peloponnese." We're also going to be having a look at this guy called Aratus of Sicyon who managed to get himself elected as the head of the League 17 times. This position was called the Strategos, which is like a Greek term for the elected military general. References Phang, Sara E, Iain Spence, Douglas Kelly, and Peter Londey. 2016.
