That's what we have done to our Mother Nature We may have steadily become quite advanced with the onset of industrialization and globalization, creating new-fangled technological gizmos every day but we surely are losing out on our humanity exponentially Man’s attitude towards forests is evolving with human civilization, ranging from venerating them as sacred for their immensity, fearing them due to dangers associated with forests, finding them as impediments to agricultural development, to seeing them as sources of economic value Razing down of forest, cutting down of trees without any care to the wind, is what we all have constantly been doing over the years. We don't even want to look at the harsh impact it has on our environment. We are just so focused on our race to advancement, that we have forgotten all our basic roots, from where it all started. Deforestation and forest degradation continue to take place at alarming rates, which contributes significantly to the ongoing loss of biodiversity. Since 1990, it is estimated that 420 million hectares of forest have been lost through conversion to other land uses, although the rate of deforestation has decreased over the past three decades. With a boom in our population growth, an increase in demand for food has people running to the forests and encroaching upon its assets. Agricultural expansion continues to be the main driver of deforestation and the associated loss of forest biodiversity. Large-scale commercial agriculture accounted for 40 percent of tropical deforestation between 2000 and 2010, and local subsistence agriculture for another 33 percent. So, in a bid to look at the deep impact of our actions, we studied the statistics of the dwindling forest cover over the years from 1990 to the most recent times for different countries across the globe.
