Russian Superjet 100 Powered by Domestic PD-8 Engine Performs Maiden Flight

The prototype of Russia’s Superjet passenger aircraft completed its first flight with domestic PD-8 engines in Komsomolsk-on-Amur. The aircraft remained in the air for about 40 minutes, reaching a speed of 500 km/h and an altitude of up to 3,000 meters. After landing, the crew commander reported that the ight mission had been completed in full. The PD-8 engines demonstrated stable operation, with their gas-dynamic stability assessed under both constant and variable conditions. The PD-8 bypass turbofan engine, with a thrust of 8 tons, is designed for both the Superjet passenger aircraft and the Be-200 amphibious aircraft. It was developed using new Russian materials and manufacturing technologies, incorporating experience from the PD-14 engine program.
