I always paint the outside of my ornaments with Multi-surface paint for the base and then dot on them with regular acrylics. Then seal them with Krylons Matte Finish Spray. If you are going to be storing yours in an environment with huge temp changes you may want to consider glass ornaments and paints that will cure such as using all multi-surface or enamel paints and then baking them according to instructions. I've painted a bunch of mine with just regular acrylics but they are stored in my house in a closet. I've never had any issue with them though.
