Real Estate Institute of Victoria CEO Quentin Kilian says every small property trying to make a future is being “captured” by the Victorian government’s land tax. “We now then have a vacant property tax which has been increased and expanded state-wide,” Mr Kilian said. “What we don’t understand is why the government has to continue going just straight down the pathway of ‘tax, tax, tax’.” Mr Kilian called on the state government to incentivise more investment into the property market. A PropTrack study revealed that over 1,000 properties have left the market in just the last month.
