The Terminator: Future Shock is a First Person Shooter made by Bethesda Softworks and also published by them or Virgin Interactive depending on the Country. It was released in 1995. Note: I was actually playing this within SkyNet which is the second game but it allows you to play Future Shock and even within a higher resolution which makes the game look quite a bit better (though not used that in the video because of LAG) ^^ If someone would ask me to describe this game in one sentence I would say "Probably the only useful Terminator Videogame out there" (Well ofcourse SkyNet it's sequel too ^^) Because not only does this game hit the nail on the head with the gritty postapocalyptic setting and atmosphere but it was also one of the games ahead of it's time. It even introduced some things that were later gonna be standard in shooters like WASD controls with mouselook or throwing grenades without needing to switch weapons (Like in Halo for Example) and even a sprint key was added. The game uses an engine called XnGine and makes fully use of it. Most of the world objects and characters are polygon based and the areas you explore are quite massive in scale. You are on your own as you play the missions and can basically explore the whole part of the city where the mission play's in and it is even possible to enter almost any building destroyed or not. Kinda similar to the Elder Scrolls series and it is obvious why. You even get to drive a jeep and fly an aircraft which is pretty astounding. And controlling them is as easy as it can get, you don't even need to bind extra keys for them it works like a charm. There are a lot of different enemies in this game, ground based and airborne enemies aswell as stationary ones like turrets. Though most of them are just stronger versions of the earlier ones and basically every enemy can be destroyed by any weapon, it just takes time if you try it with a lead pipe :P Weapons are similar to the enemies, you find one of a category and probably later on 2 stronger ones of the same kind. Weapons of one category use the same ammo though if you use a stronger one it uses more than the others. I don't know how many weapons are in the game but basically you can find everything from a lead pipe to machine guns to rocket launchers and even phased plasma rifles in the 40watt range without needing to shoot the weapon shop owner ;) Future Shock featured no Multiplayer mode but it's sequel SkyNet did have a Deathmatch mode and usable vehicles within the levels. It's definately not the best shooter I have played and it has it's problems sometimes with gameplay balance and weapon handling but I felt that most of the downsides in this game can generally considered as "bean counting" compared to what you get when you play the game: A very atmospheric, thrilling, action packed, almost open-ended Terminator FPS and probably the only one which can be considered "Good" I guess it just came out way before it's time. So Bethesda if you are bored of Elder Scrolls and Fallout why not considering a remake of these games? You could even use the engine from your latest games for it :P
