It has numerous tall, leafless stems that are tipped with capsule shaped flower spikes. White flowers form around the spike and form a halo of small flowers. These flowers bloom from the bottom up to the top, leaving a brown capsule behind. Time Of Year: Narrowleaf plantain blooms intermittently from late spring to early fall. The plants in this video, which were in various stages of bloom were filmed in June. Environment: This plant is generally found in grassy areas. Method Of Preparation: Young leaves may be eaten either raw or cooked. Older leaves should be cooked prior to eating. Medicinally, this plant can be used to treat bites and stings by chewing a poultice of the leaves and applying it directly to the bite.
