What makes the Library of Congress choose to highlight a work, add it to their collection, and interview the creator? Cary O'Dell of the National Recording Preservation Plan explains that Mara Purl relaunched the radio drama/ radio soap opera genre with her original radio drama "Milford-Haven U.S.A." Her American show became a hit on BBC Radio with 4.5 million listeners throughout the U.K. The 100 episodes of her show are archived at the Library of Congress, and also at the Museum of Broadcast Communications in Chicago, and the Museum of TV & Radio in Los Angeles. Mara and Cary do a deep dive into the specifics of writing and performing for this iconic audio format, which has now come to the fore again with the extreme popularity of audio books and podcasts. Mara and her cast and crew relearned and relaunched radio drama with great success, as the producer/writer shares step by step. Their conversation is posted here on the Library of Congress blog page: https://www.loc.gov/programs/national...
