Andrew Wyeth was one of the best-known American visual artists of the 20th century. Due to his frail health, he was schooled at home by his father. His childhood was pretty isolated and sheltered. Since his father was also an artist and an illustrator, Wyeth started drawing at the young age, and when his first works were published, they were published under his father’s name. Wyeth preferred to work with tempera and watercolor. The subjects of Wyeth’s paintings has come almost entirely from two locations, Chadds Fords in Pennsylvania, and around his summer home in Maine. In 1963, he was the first painter to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom. In 1977 Wyeth became the first American artist to be elected to the French Académie des Beaux-Arts. In 1980 he became the first living American artist to be elected to Britain’s Royal Academy. #tempera #watercolors #american #americanartist #bestartist #AndrewWyeth #wyeth
