New Zealand’s exports to the United Kingdom have grown dramatically since the New Zealand–UK Free Trade Agreement came into force in 2023. New figures from Stat New Zealand show exports to the UK have climbed 48 percent over just two years — rising from NZ$1.43 billion in 2023 to NZ$2.12 billion in 2025. The growth has been steady and significant. Exports increased 20 percent in 2024, followed by another 23 percent in 2025, as tariff reductions and new market access began to take effect. The standout performer in 2025 was the meat sector. New Zealand’s meat exports to the UK hit NZ$843 million, a 69 percent jump from the previous year. This surge reflects the new duty free quota introduced for New Zealand meat under the Free Trade Agreement. Under the deal, UK tariffs on New Zealand beef will be phased out over 10 years, and tariffs on sheep meat will be eliminated over 15 years. Video by freepik
