Flashes of light in video. My first homemade hub motor electric bike, mostly built from free find parts, bike, hub motor and one adult bike frame. I only paid for batteries, controller, and throttle, total cost about $120 USD. In this video I show most of the build plus how to hook up some wiring and put the duel mode controller in learning mode. I also test drive the ebike and tow a trailer for camping. On this build I'm using a 500 watt hub motor from an old scooter, supposedly the motor was burnt. I'm using a 1000 - 1500 watt 48v bldc duel mode controller bought on amz, the throttle was bought on Ail. I'm using 4 batteries new sealed lead acid 12v 10 ah also found on amz. This was a easy and fun build, the top speed is only about 20 mph not as fast as my chain drive bikes but it has way more torque. The range of this bike is about 24 miles 40km, better than my other ebike builds. If you find a cheap scooter motor you can build this ebike, also without welding and just use a bolt on rear bike carrier to hold your batteries. I used sealed lead acid batteries because they are much cheaper but a lithium 48v 20 ah battery pack would be awesome for this build and it would extend the range considerably. The scooter motor might be able to go on the back of the bike, but the bike would only have one speed to peddle and I don't like that. Yes traction is reduced but the batteries could be moved closer to the front to compensate, I would recommend doing so. I only welded on this project because I wanted to raise up the seat and install front breaks. You can just use the kids bike the way it is with no welding all you have to do is widen the front forks.
