JR Hokkaido’s special ‘Yuhi (sunset) Norokko’ sightseeing train operated for a limited three-day period from September 27–29, enabling passengers to enjoy the Kushiro Wetlands lit by the setting sun, from the windows of the train. The first day of services was blessed with fine weather as passengers photographed the wetlands, colored orange by the light. This is the second season of train services, which also took place last autumn. Approximately 100 passengers were aboard the train on the first day as it departed from Kushiro at 3:23 p.m. on the outward journey of the round-trip, of which one service will operate each day. A similar number were also aboard the return journey (approx. 27 km one way), which departed from Toro (Shibecha Town) at 4:42 p.m. Wildlife could be seen from the train; “I could see the sika deer so close,” said a female passenger from Biei, excitedly.
