"I would like to speak about hemodialysis today. Hemodialysis, in very simple terms, is the process of purifying the blood from substances that accumulate in patients with kidney disease or kidney failure—such as urea, creatinine, potassium, and hydrogen. These accumulated substances are removed or exchanged using a hemodialysis apparatus. When we mention a hemodialysis apparatus, we are essentially referring to a device called a dialyzer. These toxic substances, when allowed to build up in the body, can cause serious symptoms, so they are removed during dialysis, which must be done periodically—ideally twice a week, without compromise. Generally, the outcomes of hemodialysis are quite good. Most patients respond well, maintaining a decent quality of life, appetite, sense of well-being, and mobility. There is also another variant of hemodialysis known as slow continuous therapy or continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT). This method is not used for regular patients but is reserved for those with hemodynamic instability, such as low blood pressure, often seen in ICU patients. For these cases, we use special devices, and this therapy has also proven to be very effective in such critical settings." #Hemodialysis #DialysisCare #KidneyFailure #Dialyzer #CRRT #ICUCare #ApolloHospitals #CleanBlood #RenalReplacement #PatientWellbeing ___________________________________________________________________________________ Apollo Hospitals is the leading multi-specialty hospitals group in India.
