Takabbur (arrogance) is one of the most dangerous diseases of the heart. It was arrogance that destroyed Iblis. When Allah commanded him to bow before Adam (AS), he refused — not because he denied Allah, but because he thought he was superior. Arrogance begins with one thought: “I am better.” Better in wealth. Better in knowledge. Better in status. Better in beauty. Better in lineage. But Islam teaches: True greatness belongs only to Allah ﷻ. The Prophet ﷺ said that a person who has even an atom’s weight of arrogance in his heart will not enter Jannah — arrogance means rejecting truth and looking down upon people. The Dangerous Outcomes of Arrogance: Rejection of truth Broken relationships Loss of respect Hardness of heart Distance from Allah Humiliation in this world and the Hereafter A proud person may appear strong — But inside he is weak. Arrogance makes a person blind to his own faults And expert at seeing others’ mistakes. The Cure for Arrogance: Remember your origin — from dust Remember your end — the grave Accept truth even from someone younger Sit with the poor and serve others Make sincere tawbah Reflect on the greatness of Allah The more a person knows Allah — The more humble he becomes. True honor is in humility. The Prophet ﷺ was the most honored — yet the most humble. If we want elevation — We must lower ourselves before Allah.
