Notches Sewing is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to amazon.com This video is a step by step tutorial on how to sew buttons onto a Suede or Leather jacket using a leather needle and Silamide thread. Leather sewing needles have a triangular point which allows it to pierce through the leather easily without tearing. (I never even use a thimble) The Silamide thread is a soft 2ply waxed nylon thread with a beautiful texture that is strong and resilient. I love using this thread for sewing buttons on all coats and jackets. It holds knots well and sews smoothly. Sewing a button onto a jacket or coat should always be finished with a small back button on the inside. It protects the fabric or leather from the constant pull of the thread and preventing holes.
