My Regrets as a Physics Student

Here are my top regrets as a physics student. But I think it can apply to anyone in college, though, a few things are more specific to research and eventually wanting to get into grad school, which was my initial goal. You know how to think, which is great and very appreciated, but I did struggle a bit out of school to get a job because I did not have that list of programming languages, or deep knowledge that would be needed. I wish I had spend more time in classes learning CS or continued doing Robotics. not taking more liberal arts philosophy courses I never thought I’d say this. I LOVED the fact my university didn’t make me take a lot of classes like this, but because of that, I feel like I missed out on a lot of skills that helped me out later in life - writing, public speaking - because my university didn't have those classes required. not speaking up in class more trying to do more things to seem more impressive instead of getting really good at one thing I kind of did this halfway, I did stay in my lab for 3 years and that was amazing. I’m pretty sure this was 100% the reason I won the fellowship for the year at my grad school, even though I’m also pretty sure I had the lowest GPA. I think this applies in career too. There’s a lot of stuff you could be doing, but what is driving you and giving you value? I think you see the conclusion here - i think a lot of this focuses on being true to yourself, in your knowledge, and what your vision is, and allowing yourself to have fun and do things truly because you want to do them. We all have to take certain courses that are awful, so there’s no reason to extend the misery outside of it, you know? #physics #studenttips #university
