In 1 Kings 19:1–9, the prophet Elijah flees for his life after Queen Jezebel vows revenge for his bold stand against the prophets of Baal. Overwhelmed and discouraged, Elijah journeys into the wilderness, sits beneath a broom tree, and pleads with God to take his life. But instead of condemnation, God sends an angel to strengthen him with food and rest. Elijah is sustained for forty days and nights, traveling to Mount Horeb, the mountain of God, where he takes refuge in a cave.
