Brazilian Symphony Orchestra João Pedro Teixeira, soloist Miguel Campos Neto, conductor Live recording at Cidade das Artes Bibi Ferreira, Rio de Janeiro, 1/8/2023. Composition, Arrangements and Orchestration by João Pedro Teixeira. I. The Pandemic ll. African Heritage III. Brazil on Fire and In Search of a Cure Throughout the composition, the soloist is not restricted to his traditional role and sometimes merges with the symphonic mass, establishing a different and special dialog with the orchestra. The Symphony is inspired by the harsh moments of the pandemic and surprises by its symbolic appeal. The first movement, "A Pandemia" (The Pandemic), begins with a powerful introduction by the Sheng - a Chinese instrument that predates the accordion -whose unique tremor symbolizes the unexpected arrival of the virus. A melancholy cajun accordion solo kicks off the movement "Herança Africana" (African Heritage) which unfolds musically through a striking narrative arc whose theme is indigenous/Afro-Brazilian history and culture. "Brasil em Chamas" (Brazil on Fire) and "Em Busca da Cura" (In Search of a Cure), the final movement begins in mournful tones and features a virtuoso string motif that emulates the sound of burning. The work ends on a very positive note, in vibrant tones of glory. One of the highlights of this concert is that the soloist uses 06 instruments from the accordion family. The world premiere of the work was held with the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra conducted by Miguel Campos Neto at the Cidades das Artes grand hallin August 2023 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
