The BNSF Southern Transcon is the former Atchison, Topeka, & Santa Fe Railroad mainline from Chicago to Los Angeles, traversing through nine states. The Southern Transcon was completed by the Santa Fe in 1908. One of the former Santa Fe's most remarkable states it passed through was Missouri, where BNSF operates train after train through the rolling hills of Northern Missouri and around the super-elevated curves, giving the ability for trains to operate at high speeds between Fort Madison, Iowa and Kansas City. This stretch of the BNSF Transcon is known as the Marceline Subdivision, a total distance of 217 miles. In this video, we spend a little over half of a Sunday in the small community of La Plata, capturing a total of 14 trains.
