“Fruit of the True Vine” uses the Bible’s vineyard motif to contrast God’s rightful expectation of fruit with the tragedy of barren or corrupt produce. It draws from Israel’s vineyard imagery and Jesus’ parables of tenants, then lands on the New Testament clarity: Christ is the true Vine, and lasting fruit only comes through abiding in Him. The song becomes a prayer for pruning, purity, and Spirit-grown fruit that remains until harvest. Scripture anchors: Isaiah 5:1–7; Psalm 80:8–16; Matthew 21:33–41; John 15:1–8; Galatians 5:22–23. Fruit of the True Vine [Verse 1] A vineyard waits for faithful care. It needs good fruit, not empty air. Wild grapes grow where hearts are cold; So prune me, Lord—make me unfold. [Chorus 1] I will abide in Christ the Vine. Apart from Him, no fruit is mine. Make my life true, not leafy show; Let love be fruit that You can know. [Verse 2] Your vineyard planted, hedged, and kept, Yet strife arose where joy had slept. So You sent One—the Cornerstone; They cast Him out, but He was known. [Chorus 2] Lord, prune my heart; remove the dead. Living water of grace be fed. Bear fruit in season, fruit that stays; A vineyard filled with thanks and praise. [Bridge] Not fear, not flesh will feed this vine. Your Spirit’s strength will make it thrive. So cleanse the ground, and break the stone; Till all my heart is Yours alone. [Outro] Till harvest day, I’ll stay in You. The King of all, the Vine that’s true. And when You come to claim Your field, Find fruit in me, fully revealed.
