Maha Shivaratri 2024 : https://bit.ly/3V6rYx4 Mahashivratri, also called ‘the Great Night of Shiva’, is a major Hindu festival that honors Lord Shiva. The festival is celebrated in many parts of the country. On this day, devotees observe an all-day fast, visit Shiva temples, and maintain a night-long vigil. Some people also perform Mahashivratri Pooja at home. Here is a step-by-step guide for those who wish to perform the Pooja at their homes. Mahashivratri Pooja Vidhi At Home 1. Get up early in the morning on the day of the Pooja. Add some sesame seeds to the bathing water to purify the body and soul. If possible, take a holy dip in the Ganges. 2. While showering, take an oath to observe fast for the whole day. Also, seek Shiva’s blessings to lead a righteous life. 3. In the evening, visit the temple for Mahashivratri Pooja after taking a bath. Those who cannot go to the temple can do Mahashivratri Pooja at home by using some mud to create a Shiva Linga. Apply some ghee to the Linga. 4. As per ancient texts and scriptures, the Mahashivratri Katha and Pooja should be performed with various items like rose water, yogurt, ghee, milk, honey, sugar, water, and sandalwood. You can do the Pooja once or four times during the day. 5. Those who do Four Prahar Pooja (4-times-Pooja) must do the Abishekam with water during the first Prahar, curd during the second Prahar, ghee during the third Prahar, and honey during the fourth Prahar. 6. After performing the Abishekam, decorate the Shiva Linga with garlands of Bilva leaves, as it pleases Shiva immensely. 7. After this, apply Kumkum and Chandan and light Dhoop. Then, offer other items like the Madar flower and Vibhuti (holy ash) to the Shiva Linga. 8. All through the Mahashivratri Pooja, keep chanting the Panchakshari Mantra, “Om Namah Shivaya,” Sri Rudram, Mahanyasam, and other Vedic chants. Break the fast on the day following Mahashivratri after having a bath before the end of Chaturdashi Tithi. 9. Have only one meal on the day before Mahashivaratri so that there is no undigested food inside the body when you begin the Mahashivratri fast.
